Backyard Civics 101: MI Disability Rights Coalition

  • Grand Rapids, MI United States (map)

Civicize.Me’s place-based Community Civic Leader Certification program grows more vibrant communities through civic education and action. Combining Civics 101 lessons with local government tours, highly interactive leadership development and goal-setting, Civicize.Me prepares you for successful civic engagement in your own backyard.

This session includes historical context for Michigan’s multi-layered government structure, briefly charts the branches of federal and state government, then focuses on demystifying local county, municipal (city, township, village) and school district systems. You will learn each of these government structures and understand the power within them. The first step towards building power in our community is understanding how government works!
