Lisa Castro is an intern with SMG Strategies. She is from West Michigan. She grew up on a farm that is now known as Saul Lake Nature Preserve in Rockford, Michigan and is passionate about art, architecture, and social justice; human and cultural ecology and sustainability; poetry, philosophy, and politics; and interdisciplinary studies.
Lisa is currently concluding a Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies from Grand Valley State University, in Allendale, Michigan. Her area of focus is art for social justice in creating a sustainable world.
She the winner of the Winter 2018 Wendy J. Wenner Outstanding Liberal Studies Thesis Award for her essay, “Is Architecture Compassion Made Visible? Exemplifying Our Way of Building.”
The interdisciplinary courses she has taken in art, social justice, and sustainability have uniquely prepared her for entering the field of architecture via the lens of compassion.This fall Lisa will commence her education with a Masters of Architecture at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. She intends to approach architecture from a humanitarian and social justice activist perspective.
