Born in Hartford, Connecticut raised in Birmingham, AL. Debra Brazil Griffin has been involved in politics, community and social justice her entire life. She graduated from Alabama A&M with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. She attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School with future plans to complete her law degree on the horizon. An IT Analyst, Debra has over 20+ years of experience in the field of technology.

She’s the current President of the Progressive Democratic Women’s Caucus of Muskegon County. She is a past treasurer of the Muskegon County Democratic Party and a staunch proponent for public education.  She created “Parents have Power” a local advocacy group to be a voice to help parents of children in the community who felt their voice was not being heard or recognized by the local school system because of their race and/or economic situation.  Debra was a parent volunteer that help start a Muskegon middle school robotics team and She is on track to launch 'Shiya Ifa'  (leave a legacy) in 2018, a political action committee (PAC) to engage, educate and bring local communities of color into the political debate, to find qualified minority men and women to run for office.
