Michigan Voice, a fiscally sponsored project of State Voices, is a state-based collaboration formed in 2005 to improve long-term coordination and communication among community-based nonprofit civic engagement 501(c)(3) organizations in Michigan. The Michigan Voice table works together to create a more accessible, inclusive, and representative democracy. Michigan Voice and its partners are committed to reducing bias and discrimination; increasing diversity and inclusion; and advancing collective action around a common issue agenda.

Michigan Voice seeks a full-time Director to begin work in September 2019. The Director will coordinate the collaborative, which is made up of justice-oriented, nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations.

The Michigan Voice Director’s essential functions and specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Write and implement the organizational plan and budget for the collaborative.

  • Raise funds required to support annual budget and manage the organization’s financial systems.

  • Deepen relationships in communities across the state to build a strong, collaborative


  • In coordination with the Steering Committee, drive the strategic planning process and

    determine the Table’s priorities, programs and resources.

  • Lead the facilitation of Michigan Voice table meetings.Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following qualifications:

o Work experience with issue advocacy organizations, campaigns, and/or diverse coalition development is strongly preferred

o Strong skills in leadership, vision, and strategy
o Five years or more experience managing staff
o Ability to see and develop a vision for a social justice movement in Michigan
o Three years or more experience raising funds and grant writing; relationships with

foundations or major donors is a plus
o Demonstrated commitment to equity and justice (i.e., broad spectrum of work with racial

justice/privilege, anti-racism, white allies, etc.)
o Deep knowledge of Michigan and its needs and strengthso Must reside in Michigan
o Ability to work non-standard hours

Compensation: Compensation is competitive and negotiable depending on background and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
