Michigan Immigrant Rights Center- Public Policy Coordinator

Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) is a legal resource center for immigrant communities across Michigan with offices in Ypsilanti, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Kalamazoo. This position will be based in our Ypsilanti or Kalamazoo offices. MIRC works to build a thriving Michigan where immigrant communities experience equity and belonging. MIRC is seeking a Public Policy Coordinator to advance key priorities identified by our clients and immigrant community leaders. Our public policy work primarily has a state and local immigrant rights focus, although we engage with national and local partners on critical federal immigration law and immigrant rights policy issues as well. The Policy Coordinator will support MIRC’s attorneys and program coordinators through: communications and data development including social media campaigns; administrative and legislative tracking and analysis; and relationship and coalition building with decision makers, community partners, and other stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated history of interest and engagement in social justice public policy issues,including but absolutely not limited to higher education relating to immigrant rights or public policy. Passionate commitment to MIRC’s goals and mission. Collaborative and flexible approach to working with fellow staff and movement partners in a constantly-changing and high stakes policy environment. Strong racial equity analysis. Effective interpersonal and public communication skills, including ability to communicate persuasively to diverse audiences. Spanish, Arabic, or other relevant language skills preferred. Applicants with lived personal and community experience of relevant public policy issues are strongly encouraged to apply.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: We are open to applicants with varied backgrounds and salary offers will be dependent on education and experience to ensure parity with current staff. A candidate with a bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience could expect a starting salary offer to be $39,000. Includes health, disability, and fringe benefits.
