Political Field Director for Good Jobs Now

*Good Jobs Now (GJN) *is a grassroots membership based organization that 
fights for political, economic and social justice for low and moderate 
income Detroiters.
Good Jobs Now and GJN Action seek a Political Field Director to join our 
team as soon as possible. This position will be responsible for managing 
and representing the Good Jobs Now political and policy program at the 
local, state and federal level. Political Directors will be expected to do 
a wide variety membership engagement including one on ones, on-going 
membership meetings, full engagement plan for activists, leadership 
development, and other tactics geared towards building a thriving base. 
This position will also be responsible for the supervision and training of 
1-3 campaign organizers plus the yearly supervision of our Organizing 
Fellowship Program.
*Major responsibilities include:*

  • Management of GJN/A political team

  • Implement yearly political plan by working with political team in the 
    planning and evaluation of voter engagement and political programs;

  • Implement a member engagement and advocacy program to hold elected 
    officials accountable with measurable impact on education and policy.

  • Coordinate with other departments within the organization to ensure that 
    the political program aligns with GJN/A’s broader strategy, particularly 
    close coordination with issue campaign leads and organizing team.

  • Lead and support member training and political education opportunities

  • Develop and leverage relationships to support political programs;

  • Support political program by helping to raise funds from local and 
    national donors and organizations.

    To be successful, the organizer must have a commitment to social justice, 
    and a belief that those directly affected by issues in society must be at 
    the forefront of changing them. Organizing is a practice, and the person 
    must be dedicated to all aspects of it to be successful – recruitment, 
    leadership development, mobilization and reflection.Candidate should have a 
    demonstrated commitment to taking action to improve your community or to 
    address specific problems is critical. Experience with or understanding of 
    issues faced by low income people is preferred.
    Competitive salary ($50,000- $60,000) commensurate with experience.

    Owning and operating a car is required (preferably union made), willingness 
    to travel and the ability to competently navigate the city and state with 
    activists are required. Occasional in-state travel is required. 
    Opportunities to travel across the country for training or with members can 
    be reasonably expected. Good Jobs Now provides mileage reimbursement, per 
    diem and lodging when working away from home.
