Equity Coordinator for City of Grand Rapids

The purpose of this job is to provide professional level administrative support services to a department head or other administrative position. Manages assigned projects. Work as staff liaison to the various departmental divisions and programs and outside agencies; may act as staff liaison with the media. In some instances, this position will have supervisory responsibility.

The City of Grand Rapids has recently been awarded a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) with the expressed purpose to embed racial economic equity in the restoration of the Grand River. This position is funded by that WKKF grant which is currently for 18 months.

This position will leverage the multi-layered Grand River restoration project to create policy and systems that support the utilization of Micro-Local Business Enterprises (MLBE), wealth creation focused on reducing disparities through river business development and support, embed equity in the multiple Request for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts to be issued, hiring of Grand Rapids Neighborhoods of Focus (NOF) residents, and will also include culturally responsive and focused outreach and engagement needed to meet those goals.
